Generally January is the warmest month and July the coolest, with daytime temperatures seldom below 20°C during the day in winter. It is truly one of the great wonders of the natural world and a 'must-see' for anyone visiting the region. 'Knuckle Reef Lagoon' is acclaimed as one of the most pristine sites with an abundance of coral and fish life.
Airlie BeachLying at the heart of the Whitsundays, vibrant Airlie Beach is a backpacking mecca, party town and the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. Airlie Beach is located about 1,100 km north of Brisbane and about 700 km south of Cairns and is the major accommodation and eating destination for travellers planning to take trips out to the stunning Islands. A colourful and inviting resort town lying on the shores of a palm fringed beach and overlooking the calm waters of Pioneer Bay, Airlie beach provides many of the essential services for travellers to the area. The centre of the Airlie Beach township is a myriad of shops, eating places ranging from fast foods to quality restaurants, accommodation options, pubs and bars and cosmopolitan nightlife with many clubs providing entertainment well in to the small hours... Airlie Beach provides an always lively scene with all the other international travellers in town. By day there are lots of shops and boutiques for some retail therpay, open seven days a week. And every Saturday the foreshore parkland hosts a market with stalls selling fresh fruit & veggies, local arts & crafts and more. Located only a few metres from the beach the shopping centre has a holiday feel and the whole township, a distinctly tropical flavour. Airlie Beach Lagoon in the centre of town is a welcome oasis. An amazing foreshore parkland surrounding a series of inter-linked lagoon pools, it is the perfect place to chill, cool off and relax with a swim...
